Terms and Conditions

1                  Closing date for receipt of entries is May 15th, 2019.

2                  Submission must be entirely the entrant’s own work and never have been published in a book, magazine or anthology, though they may have been previously published online. Stories can be on any subject and in any style, but should fit in with the theme in paragraph 8 below. Stories must be no less than 1,000 words and no more than 3,000 words in length.  Stories must be in English, and saved in one of the following formats .doc, .docx. or .txt.   Entries not in these formats will not be read, and the entry fee will not be returned.

3                 The entry fee is $25 per story.  This is payable through Paypal.  Once payment is made, you will be sent a confirmation of entry and details of the email where to send your work.  You may enter as many stories as you wish providing the entry fee is paid for each story.

4                 Once entered, submissions cannot be withdrawn.  Submission fees are non-returnable.  No postal entries will accepted.  No correspondence will be entered into.. Once your entries are successfully submitted to our system you will be sent a confirmation email from us. 

5                 There is one prize of $100, this will be paid to one author; there will be no joint winners.

6                 The winner, and seven runners-up, will be notified by 1st July, 2019, and will be sent a request for permission to be included in a publication in an anthology to be published in paperback on or after 31st August, 2019.    Should any author not wish to be published in the anthology, submissions from those shortlisted will be considered for publication.  All authors included in the anthology will receive two complimentary copies of the book.  An author will not have more than one story in the anthology. 

7                  The process of selection shall be as follows; all entries will made anonymous and then read by two people from an anonymous panel of four.  Recommendations from this panel will form the shortlist.  The editor will then select eight stories from the shortlist for publication.   All eight stories will be read by the four panellists, and together with the editor, the winner of the $100 prize will be decided.

8                 The theme of the competition is to show the reader the world anew"  

9                  Global copyright of each entry remains with the author, but Willowdown Books will have the unrestricted right to edit and publish submitted stories in multimedia formats, including (but not limited to) website, e-book and print formats, without restriction. Willowdown Books reserves the right to republish selected stories in different formats at a later date.

10                 The judges' decision is final and no individual correspondence can be entered into.

11                 Willowdown Books reserves the right not to publish the anthology if insufficient entries are deemed to be of a suitable quality.  IN such a case, only the prize for the best story will be made.

12                 Entry implies acceptance of all the terms and conditions.
